THANKS for a wonderful week!

by jennifer on July 19, 2009

Thanks to everyone who made Dance Camp a wonderful experience!  We learned so much this week — from the different dance styles and history, to background on the ethnic foods, to cool craft techniques.  It was a great week.  And we capped it off with a riverfront celebration!

Many thanks!!  :)

African dance is awesome!

by jennifer on July 16, 2009

What a cool experience to learn dances from Liberia and Senegal. We also had the opportunity to participate in a drumming circle!  We learned a welcoming dance including some important characteristics of it and a harvest dance.  In our harvest dance we were gathering rice and we got to dance with baskets. We played tubanos in the drum circle.  To conclude our session we were able to perform these dances with live drummers — Thanks Ms. Ayana and drummers!

Flamenco is fun!

by jennifer on July 15, 2009

We learned all kinds of things about the history of Flamenco and the parts of the dance.  Plus we were given license to stomp! We learned about the music and how to have attitude.  :)  We joined in a circle where everyone could show off their moves.  Thanks, Ms. Camille – Ole!

Irish dancing is interesting!

by jennifer on July 14, 2009

We had a great time learning Irish dance with Miss Lena!  We learned some history behind the dance and its postures as well as how it’s graded.  We learned several steps and even a bonfire dance!!  We were on our feet having fun!

Bharatanatyam is the best!

by jennifer on July 13, 2009

What fun we had today learning a new style of dance!  Many thanks Miss Rachita! :)  It was tough but really cool. We learned steps for our feet. Neat hand movements.  And what facial expressions! We also learned how to portray different emotions as well as animals.  What fun!!  We enjoyed our henna, too.  :)
