Dance for Children and Youth

We offer many classes for ages 2 through high school with a well-honed curriculum. Options include instruction in ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, hip hop, contemporary, jazz funk, musical theater, and acro. See below for more details about our diverse offerings.

Dance for Adults

Dance really is for everyone. We offer classes for adults in tap, jazz, and hip hop. Adults can register or drop in on any classes they find interesting–Hip Hop, Contemporary, Modern, Jazz, and more. Don’t miss this fun way to reward yourself!

Music Classes

In addition to dance, we offer private lessons in piano and voice. Music in all forms is so important to our children’s education. These classes are particularly helpful for our friends interested in Musical Theater pursuits. Contact us directly to create a schedule of private lessons.

We’re pleased to offer music classes for preschoolers as well. Little Musicians music class introduces children to the fundamentals of music, including the steady beat, rhythm, pitch, dynamics, use of instruments and voice, and much more! Inquire about the latest session.

Further, The Studio Sings is a new singing club that will meet again with the new season.

Children’s Dance Classes:

We offer many children’s classes with a well-honed curriculum. We help kids make cross-connections by employing pretend play, incorporating colors, shapes, numbers, and more. We introduce ballet and tap technique at an developmentally appropriate pace and, most importantly, we have fun! Hip Hop is available to our young dancers beginning in Kindergarten or at the age of five. Membership in our Performing Groups is also available beginning at age five.

We 2: Two turning three year-olds – A primarily creative movement class meant to be a special time with child and family member.

Little Musicians [2.5 - 5]: Two and half to five - This music class introduces children to the fundamentals of music in a fun and age-appropriate setting.

Twinkle Toes [3 – 4]: Three turning four year-olds

Tumble Tots [3 – 5]: This fun class is a preschool introduction to acrobatics

Broadway Babies [4 – 5]: Four turning five year-olds –  There is some blending of ages at the Pre-K level and usually at least one blended class.

Hippety Hop: [3 – 5] Three and Four year-olds – This class is a ton of fun, blending a Pre-K structure with upbeat music and moves.

Shining Stars: [5 – 6] – Kindergarteners — This class is a combination of Ballet and Tap. It covers pretend play, musicality, cross-body connections, patterns, and the basics of technique in both genres with an age-appropriate pace and vocabulary.

Shooting Stars: [6 – 7] – First graders — Similar to our Shining Stars class, Shooting Stars furthers the technique and vocabulary of our dancers, enabling them to begin leveled classes the following year.

Tumble Stars: [6 – 7] – First graders — Similar to our Shooting Stars class, Tumble Stars works with first graders in the genre of Ballet, but substitutes Acrobatics.

School-Age Dancers:

As our dancers get older they have more choices of dance genres available to them and may choose their level of intensity. National experts agree second grade is the right age to offer kids more challenge if they have interest. At this point onward dancers are eligible to join our Ballet Company, our Jazz Curriculum, our Tap Curriculum, as well as continue with our Hip Hop Curriculum, and join our Competition Teams. As dancers get older, the ages are guidelines but exceptions are made based on ability. All placement is done by instructor. The levels below include ballet classes, tap classes, and jazz classes.

Performance Level A (Ballet, Tap, or Jazz) [7-8] – Second graders

Performance Level B [8-9] – Third graders

Performance Level C [9 -10] – Fourth graders

Performance Level D [10 – 11]- Fifth graders

Performance Level E [11 – 12] – Sixth graders

Performance Level F [12 – 13] – Seventh graders

Performance Level G [13-15] – Eight and Ninth graders

Performance Level H & I [15+] – Advanced dancers

Requirements: Dancers in Jazz classes level H and above must take supporting classes. Jazz dancers must take either a ballet class or jazz technique class. Dancers in Ballet level I must also take a company ballet technique class. Boys in Ballet classes take at no cost.

Specialty Classes:

Contemporary: [10+] This is a wonderful class that allows dancers who have a firm grasp of Ballet technique to explore new ideas about movement and space and enhance their expressiveness. There are three levels of Contemporary classes and placement is made by instructor.

Contemporary I – Contemporary III

Requirements: A Company Ballet technique class is required to take this class.

Musical Theater: [7 +] This class also offers fantastic opportunities to our dancers, many of whom participate in local theater productions in school and the community. Focusing on vocal, dance, and acting skills, this class equips students with tools and skills  for auditions and stage performances.

Musical Theater I [ages 7-10]

Musical Theater II [ages 11+]

Broadway Tap [13+] — one of our toughest classes, dancers in Broadway Tap sing while engaging in a challenging Tap dance. Dancers must have solid Tap technique.

Requirements: Dancers must take one other dance class to be enrolled in Musical Theater classes. Dancers may choose from a ballet, tap, or jazz class.

Company Ballet Technique Classes:

Dancers in our Ballet Technique classes form our Ballet Company. Our Ballet Company members perform in Ballet production. Every third year we perform our Nutcracker. Dancers are permitted to take the technique classes without performing in the ballets. Instructors place dancers in the appropriate ballet levels.

Company Ballet I – Company Ballet VI

Pre-Pointe – Pointe III: – Placement by Instructor

Dancers achieve pointe shoes as deemed by instructors via reaching appropriate technique levels.

Requirements: Dancers interested in pointe shoes should take at least two Company Technique classes. Pointe dancers must take at least two Company Technique classes along with one Progressing Ballet Technique for strength and injury prevention. Boys in level Company Ballet IV and up take all classes at no cost.

Acrobatics Classes:

These classes offers a unique opportunity to gain strength, agility, and skill in performing various acrobatic skills. Dancers progress through the skill levels and incorporate these fun moves into dance. Skills are attained and tested for promotion into the next level. Ages are just guidelines. Testing is done as part of class but may be requested independently for higher placement.

Requirements: Dancers in Acro D must take an additional class—either a Company Ballet class or a Jazz Technique class. Dancers in Acro E must take a Company Ballet class and a Contemporary class.

Hip Hop Classes:

What better way to develop your core strength and have a ton of fun, than our Hip Hop classes. These classes perform in the June show. As dancers get older the ages are guidelines but exceptions are made based on ability. Additionally there are Hip Hop Performing Groups and options to compete in this genre.

Hippety Hop: [3 – 5] Three and Four year-olds – This class is a ton of fun, blending a Pre-K structure with upbeat music and moves.

Performance Hip Hop A: [5 – 7] – Kindergarteners and 1st graders

Performance Hip Hop B: [8 -10] – 2nd and 3rd graders

Performance Hip Hop C: [10 – 13] 4th, 5th, and 6th graders

Performance Hip Hop D: [12 – 14] 7th, 8th, and 9th graders

Performance Hip Hop E: [13+]

Performance Hip Hop F: Placement By Instructor

Jazz Technique Classes:

In addition to our Performance Jazz classes we offer Jazz Technique classes. For those dancers interested in furthering their jazz technique and improving their strength and flexibility in this genre we offer our jazz curriculum. Some dancers in our jazz classes choose to compete.
